It is so easy to not get 40 points, there are countless ways to not get 40+ points, but not Brandon, punt the ball away at practice, I won’t play for the Broncos Marshall has to miss them all. You won’t play for the Broncos? 200+ receiving yards constitutes playing to me.

My whole fantasy football season is ended in the blink of an eye by Brandon “f-ing” Marshall!!!!

Will Brett Favre Come Back?

This is the question that seems to dominate sports talk every year around this time. Will Brett Favre make yet another comeback after calling it quits? Let’s be perfectly clear in my opinion of Brett Favre, and this is simply my opinion. Brett Favre is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. He is a first ballot Hall of Famer, he is also an ego maniac that has no idea who he is if tens of thousands of people every weekend are not telling him how much they love him. I believe that it absolutely killed him last season when the team that he had jerked around for 4 seasons and led to only one post season in that time said, “Hey Brett, we love you, thanks but no thanks, we are going to give the kid a shot.” And they were right!

Aaron Rodgers, the Cal Bear who sat on the bench every year and said nothing while Favre basked in the smell of his own farts and the glow of the cameras. Everyone asking “what ever will the packers do without Brett? This Rodgers can’t possibly be any good.” He sat there and said nothing except how happy he was to be a Packer and be able to learn from one of the greatest of all time. The team gave Rodgers his shot much to the dismay of the Packer faithful and Big Bad Brett and Rodgers stepped in and had one of the best QB seasons in the last decade of Packer history.

Brett decided to show them, he headed to the big stage of New York City. J-E-T-S jets jets jets!! He sold more New York Jets jerseys than anyone in history, even Broadway Joe. He let the media and fans of yet another city tell their young QB that he has no future and tell him that the world is a better place now that Brett is here. The Jet nation could almost taste the Superbowl Champagne. The ran Chad Pennington out of town on a rail and started making championship t-shirts. What happened? Everyone got an eyeful of Brett Favre circa 2006, confused, forcing balls into places they won’t fit and throwing lots of interceptions. You know what else happened? Rodgers had a spectacular season in Green Bay and Chad Pennington got MVP votes!! I know, right! Pennington, the kid with no arm and not options went to Miami and took a 2-14 team to the playoffs.

So, this leaves me with the question will Brett come back? He might, if he can find a situation where it is perfect for him, good defense, good running game, good receivers and friendly faces. A place where people easily forget that this is not the Brett Favre of 1995, 1996 or 1997. A place where he can compete and be successful with diminished skills and an inflated sense of self. Does it matter to fantasy owners? In a good situation where you don’t get dinged too badly for INTs he will still be an adequate QB but you better make other plans if you want a fantasy QB you can count on for 15+ week in and week out.

It doesn’t seem to matter who he plays for or how well the team does or how productive he is, Terrell Owens cannot find a team that will put up with his immature petulance. Let’s just take a quick look at his History:
San Francisco 49ers 1996-2003:
Averaged over 1000 yards, 10 tds per season
Relationship ended with Owens angry that he was not given the ball enough in critical situations. It was his believe that if he was more involved they would win. Owens also openly criticized his QB Jeff Garcia in the media about his arm strength. He also hinted about Garcia’s sexual orientation. At least he kept it professional.

Philadelphia Eagles 2004-2005:
Averaged 100 yards and 1 td per game. Almost super human numbers for a receiver. He spent the first season talking about how great it was to have a quality quarterback throwing to him. The team went to the superbowl and T.O. was Philly’s favorite son! He spent the second season talking about how “his team” would be better if they had a quarterback like Brett Favre. Relationship with the eagles ended with T.O. doing sit ups in his driveway for the media while telling them that he would do better in a place where he was appreciated. He was cut.

Dallas Cowboys 2006-2008 Dallas Cowboys:
Averaged 1100 yards, 13 tds per season 2 play off appearances
All things looked great, T.O. was best friends with his QB Tony Romo. They bunked together on the road and Terrell even started crying while defending Romo in front of the cameras when the vicious reporters hinted that Romo was unfocused because he spent his bye-week in Cabo with his Bimbette Jessica Simpson before the playoffs. T.O. tearfully told reporters that they were not being fair and they should leave him alone. Last season Terrell Owens shockingly started to become upset with what he considered a diminishing role in the offense. He even went so far as to hint that it was racially motivated that Jason Witten was getting more looks than him. He again started to publically air his grievances……..He was cut.

2009……
Enter the Buffalo Bills.
So, Pro bowlers, Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb, and Tony Romo were all not good enough to get him the ball properly, but, TRENT EDWARDS IS THE ANSWER?????!!!!!!!!! Terrell Owens is like that person who tells you about having 14 different roommates in the last 2 years and tells you how they were all impossible to live with. Do you think that all 14 are crazy, or do you think that maybe you are the crazy one?

So, what does this mean to your fantasy team if you are “lucky” enough to have him on your roster???? It means great things for at least next year. If you look at Owens’ history everytime he goes to a new team the first year is a monster. He is playing to prove that the last team was wrong about him. He works extra hard in the offseason and generally has 1200 yards and 13TDs during the year, that is what we would call a top tier WR. So if you have him on your team you will never get what he is worth in a trade so just sit back and get prepared for a good year. If you do not have him trade for him. At least a couple of the guys in your league are too stupid to read this site so you can probably get him cheap. The possible gold nugget at the end of this rainbow is he is only signed to a 1 year contact so if Buffalo doesn’t pay him off next year, which they won’t(small market teams generally don’t spend a ton), you could ride the TO hurricane for a second big season. As a note of caution if the next team that signs him does it for more then one year make sure you fire sale his ass before then end the that first year.

I know this sounds ridiculous but look at the pattern. In the spirit of Marshall Faulk, and Shaun Alexander, Ladainian was the consensus first overall pick for the 2008 fantasy season. He rewarded all of those first pick drafters with what was by far his worst fantasy season to date. The reason was a season riddled with injury, the most debilitating of which was an ongoing, nagging toe injury. This injury is not looking like it will ever go away for good. This allowed for the emergence of the quick footed and very versatile Darren Sproles. If history serves as any indication, the days of fantasy football dominance for LT….ARE OVER!!! I am not saying that he is not longer ownable like Alexander became after his big season, or retired like Faulk after his big season’s, but He is no longer draftable in the first round. There have been rumours floated that Ladainian Tomlinson may get cut before the season starts. These rumors will probably remain just rumors, but with the season that Sproles had, you can definitely look for a running back by committee in San Diego at the very least. I cannot see a situation that you can draft the 2nd horse in an obvious timeshare situation and still consider yourself a serious Fantasy Football player……even if that player is the greatest fantasy football player of all time. Consider yourself on notice, if you draft LT in the first round and get your ass handed to you, not my fault, I warned you.

Ok, so by now you have heard that Peyton Manning has won his third MVP award tying him with Brett Favre are the only players in NFL history to win 3 times. I think there is something wrong with this picture.  Most of the info that I hear talk about how he won this because had offensive line and running game issues and still was able to perform at a high level. Not that this is incorrect but I think there was another QB with a similar situation and put up better numbers, Kurt Warner (he got 1 vote). ONE VOTE!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? The Cardinals are awful with Matt Leinhart at the helm and yet they put Warner in there and they have the #2 offense in the league. Another guy that had a good year, hmmmm lets see, how about DREW BREES!!!! He came within 15 yards of breaking the NFL’s single season passing record for yardage and this was with his best receiver missing half the season but he was still able to the fill-ins look like pro bowlers and he did not get one single vote????? Chad Pennington gets four and Brees and Warner combine for 1 vote. Something is definitely wrong.Â

Here is all the voting:

Of course this is just my take. I also think Albert Haynesworth should have got some consideration but yet again received 0 votes. I think the voters should look at each season and not at a players body of work.

I don’t know. Maybe it is just me but I am really getting tired of the praising of Chad Pennington that is going on from every NFL commentator and analyst. Are the Dolphins better this year, for sure, no question. To be fair they were 1-15 last season so being better isn’t that big of a step but they are way better and over 500. This has most, if not all, analyst on their knees handing over the crown to Chad Pennington. Here is Pennington’s stat line:

201/300 – 67%

2374 yards

8TD 5INT

92.8 rating

These are not the stats of a superhero as everyone is making him out to be. This is a game manager. These are not the stats of a guy who will win the game for you, they are from a guy who probably won’t lose it for you. Know who also fits in the category??? Kyle Orton!!!!!!!! Nobody is talking about what a great QB he is. Most are actually saying Chicago has a QB issue. Now Orton does not have as many yards as Pennington but he has more touchdowns and less interceptions.Â

I have another stat that may put thing in perspective. Ronnie Brown has more rushing touchdowns then Chad Pennington has total touchdowns, and Brown is certainly not looking to break any records. So a running back that is splitting carries has more touchdowns then a QB taking all the snaps.

I am not saying that better QB play isn’t contributing to the improvement of the Dolphins I just think crowning him as king is wrong. So why are they better? Well it probably starts with the defense being ranked 14th instead of 23rd like they were last year. A pass rusher leading the league in sacks. When you combine that with innovative play calling, keeping your 2 best offensive players (Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams) on the field most of the time and finding new ways to get it into their hands it adds up to a much better team.

So please commentators and analyst please take the rose colored glasses off and actually look at the stats, you will see that Pennington is an average quarterback at best with a better coaching staff and team around him then was there last year.

If you had any sort of team around your QB so that changing to a different one might give you a chance, ie. Gus Ferotte in Minnesota, then I can see going for it, but trading one dead arm for a worse one on a team that is going nowhere does not make any sense to me at all. If you were putting in your QB of the future to get some experience then that would make sense, but the only future Trent Green has is in a long term care facility after too many concussions cause him serious brain damage. You just reserved your spot in the unemployment line, good luck with your job search.
