Top Targets (Free Agents Stupid)

November 12, 2008 Top Targets No Comments

Since i don’t know who is available in your league, i am going to have to act like your league is a bunch of idiots and state the obvious. However, under all that Marcus Allen-ness, hopefully i can offer you a nugget you might have missed.

Qb’s
Head Smacker’s-
Brady Quinn, Cleveland- It seems to be the dawn of the Brady Quinn era. With the return of a calmed down Kellen Winslow and a solid running game, the sky is the limit. (until he throws a pick and the cleveland fans start chanting for Derek Anderson)

Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle- He is back right? isn’t he? If he is grab him if not, nevermind.

RB
Head Smackers-
Peyton Hillis, Denver- He is the running back in Denver with very little left to split carries with. He has to get the ball, i think.

Not So Obvious
Jerious Norwood, Atlanta- With Michael Turner putting up 20 fantasy points a game I have no idea how he is doing it but he continues to put up consistent fantasy numbers. Worth a flyer

Hail Mary-
Warrick Dunn, Tampa- I know it seem wierd to call this guy a hail mary considering how steady he has been throughout his career but whenever you pick up an RB that is over 33…it is a hail mary!

WR
Head Smackers
Justin Gage, Tennessee- He is Kerry Collins’ favorite target and in case you have been living under a rock, Kerry Collins is not dead, he actually is still alive and putting up numbers, good ones I mean, like not just a +.08 on the breathalizer.

Not so obvious
Mark Bradley, Kansas City- He was a high draft pick 2 years ago and has not been on the field consistantly since, but in the last 3 weeks he hs continued to thrive while Tony Gonzalez and Derrick Bowe get doubled. If he can stay healthy he might stay productive.

Hail Mary
Koren Robinson, Seattle- If Hasselbeck is really back, he is a good idea. If Hasselbeck is not back, he is just one more receiver to be over or under thrown by Seneca Wallace.

2 Years in a row?

November 11, 2008 General No Comments

I love the NFL.  For the second year in a row we have a team that has a chance to go undefeated and one that could go winless.

Tennessee is perfect through 10 weeks at 9-0 and with there remaining opponents having a win percentage of 0.429 an undefeated season is very possible.  If they were going to lose I would expect it to be in the final 2 weeks against Pittsburgh, but unlikely when they are at home, or in a tough divisional game on the road against the Colts in week 17.

The Detroit Lions through 10 Weeks are 0-9 with no win in sight.  From what I can see the only direction this team has is down.  They should really just pack it in and start doing research for their #1 pick in the 2009 Draft.  Their remaining opponents have a win percentage of 0.635.  Their only sub .500 team in the next 7 weeks are at home against the currently 4-5 New Orleans Saints week 16 and then on the road in the frozen tundra against a currently 4-5 Green Bay Packers team in week 17 that they have already lost to this year 48-25.

My thoughts are the odds are more with the Lions going 0-16 rather then the Titans remaining undefeated.  With no running game to speak of, despite their supposed commitment to the run at the start of the year, and a QB situation that is so bad that they pulled Daunte Culpepper off the street to come in and start with less then a week of practice, this team is in trouble and could very possibly rewrite the record books by being the only team in NFL history to go 0-16.  I hope whoever replaces Matt Millen can actually put a team together with all the picks they got in the Roy Williams trade.

Pretzel’s Pick for Thursday night game Nov 6/08

November 6, 2008 Pretzel's Picks No Comments

The spread is Cleveland by 3 points over the Broncos.  I look for this to be a much bigger win for the Browns.  With a depleted backfield and defense and opposing defenses having the ability to easily rattle Cutler the Broncos have not put up more then 19 points in there last 4 games.  The Browns should have a spark in the offense with Quinn making his first start, if for no other reason then him trying to prove to the world that it was the right decision.  Look for a big day from the Browns offense and they should take this by a touchdown if not 2.

Top Targets, For Week of Nov. 2 (free Agents Stupid)

Nov 1
Qb’s
Head Smacker’s-
Marc Bulger, St. Louis- The Guy has been to 3 pro bowls is it a shock that he can play??? He seems to have found his new Torry Holt in Donnie Avery and his new Isaac Bruce in Torry Holt (I know weird right?)
Chad Pennington, Miami- Arm Strength, arm schmength. Throw it to Ronnie Brown or Ted Ginn 5 yards downfield and watch them YAC up Pennington’s Fantasy numbers.

Not So Obvious
Seneca Wallace, Seattle- Yes he was a Hail Mary last week but…… It is a throwing offense and he is throwing. Plus, he is always a threat to take off.

Hail Mary-
Joe Flacco, Baltimore- He has been inconsistent but shown some flashes. And, Baltimore has been waiting since they moved from Cleveland for their franchise QB 8th time is the charm?

RB
Head Smackers-
Antonio Pittman- As long as St. Louis is playing with passion and Steven Jackson is hurting, he is the guy.

Not So Obvious
Ryan Torrain, Denver- He is a Denver Running back, which means 2 things 1) if they keep him on the field, he will run for 1000 yards and 10 tds 2) Mike Shanahan will never tell you who he is going to start so Torrain is only going to be worth while if Shanahan takes sanity pills.

Hail Mary-
Derrick Ward, New York- There is 3 headed monster in NY and Ward has been a big part of that but like Denver you never know who is going to get the value carries.

WR
Head Smackers
Lance Moore, New Orleans- Colsten or no, he keeps getting targeted and in case you missed it, there are plenty of balls to go around in the big easy.

Donnie Avery, St Louis- See Marc Bulger and Antonio Pittman

Not so obvious
Javon Walker, Oakland- Russell has to throw to someone right??? Doesn’t he??

Hail Mary
Demetrius Williams, Baltimore- You can never tell with Baltimore WRs but if my Joe Flacco pick is going to work out…why not Williams too.
